The Challenge
A US electronics supply chain conglomerate planned to shut down one of its factories in south China and needed assistance to coordinate and implement the lay-off of 1,000 factory workers.
Our Approach
Following the first call, we prepared a detailed action plan and timeline to map out:
- the regulatory approvals,
- the union negotiations for the mass layoff, and
- the mechanics for the company liquidation.
Based on our understanding of the operational realities in China and the dynamics and thought processes of the various players including government, union and employee and employer stakeholders we were able to support the process by identifying the key regulatory and operational concerns of different stakeholders to balance the competing risks to smooth out the mass layoff process.
The Result
The facility was closed in accordance with our plan by balancing the needs of the company, the workers, the union and the government authorities.
