We would like to congratulate Dr. Hu Zhicheng and thank all the friends who helped secure his release along the way. He was extorted and imprisoned and eventually exonerated due to people trying to steal his intellectual property. The technology Dr. Hu has developed can reduce over 90% of emissions from automobiles and factories and he was a threat to vested interests.
Partner Nicholas V. Chen was recently quoted in a story by the Associated Press on the response of Taiwan's tech industry to Samsung's "Kill Taiwan" strategy.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) announced earlier today a US$200 million settlement of the actions brought in California State Court against Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp. (SMIC) in 2006 related to SMIC’s misappropriation of TSMC trade secrets and breach of a 2005 settlement agreement between the two companies.

Nicholas Chen presented AALDEF’s 2009 Justice in Action Award to civil rights lawyer Dale Minami at its 35th anniversary charity dinner at Pier 60 in New York City before 700 attendees. Minami headed the legal team that set aside US vs. Korematsu, one of the US’s most infamous Supreme Court cases violating civil liberties of citizens during World War II.

Associate Jason Blatt was featured on the TVBS News Channel’s live coverage of the US presidential election aired in Taiwan the morning of November 5 local time. Besides providing analysis as the election results came in, Jason performed live English-to-Chinese translation of John McCain’s concession speech and Barack Obama’s victory speech. Later that evening, Jason joined a panel of experts analyzing the historic US election results on Taiwan’s Era News Channel.
